It is impossible to just take the carpet and throw it into the washing machine, while pouring in detergent and setting the spin to maximum. More precisely, you can, of course, but after such manipulations, it belongs in the landfill.

Woolen carpets can be washed, but the process is not as simple as one would like. Here are some tips on how to clean your favorite carpet and not "kill" it completely:

No washing in the washing machine

Large carpets simply won't fit there, and small ones run the risk of being deformed and losing their pile. The woolen carpet must be cleaned manually and very carefully, using special brushes with rubber bristles

Use only special powders and products for cleaning carpet products. Ideally, woolen products. Powders for washing clothes are not suitable, as most contain bleaching chemicals or color granules to enhance the color, which can negatively affect the color of the carpet. Cheerful multi-colored spots will appear on the light hair, and the dark hair will be covered with light bald spots.

Wash only in cool water

If you have the desire to completely wash the carpet, use only cool or cold water. Hot water can deform the base and damage the pile.

Never leave a wet carpet twisted

In addition to the appearance of mold and the unpleasant smell of dampness, the process of rotting may begin, since wool is a natural biodegradable material. With minimal unpleasant consequences - it is deformed, and you will not unfold it yourself.

Dry as last time

Wool does not like moisture very much and if you decide to wash the carpet, make sure that it dries well and, preferably, quickly. But don't use heaters.

Carpets made of natural wool are not cheap, and think about whether you are ready to part with it if something goes wrong. It is always more difficult to correct than to do well right away. Methods of washing a wool carpet

There are two methods of cleaning carpet products: wet and dry. We recommend choosing a dry method for a wool carpet.

Cleaning with snow

Put the mat on clean snow and sprinkle it on top. If the pile is short, then use a racket for knocking out carpets to knock out the dust from the base, and sweep the surface with a broom or a brush. For a long pile, you can also use a beater, but the surface will have to be combed with a brush, preferably with rubber bristles. Do not forget to dry the product well.

When choosing what to wash a woolen carpet with, pay attention to these means:

Powder

Powders for dry cleaning, such as Vanish, have shown themselves excellently. Distribute the product on the surface, wait for the time written in the instructions and vacuum. From the "folk" means for dry cleaning, you can try soda, but the effect will be worse.

Shampoo

Its use refers to the wet method. Mix the product with water until foam is formed and apply it to the surface as stated in the instructions. Wait the required amount of time and vacuum. Be sure to dry the carpet.
